Join fellow aspiring Bronx creatives for a Saturday evening mixer, featuring a panel of film industry professionals on April 16. A collective of artists committed to elevating cinema culture in the Bronx will be hosting the first program of 2022: a networking event with the goal of connecting filmmakers and creators with each other.
Ayaris Perez and Edwin Torres are the co-founders of Bronx Film 48, a community initiative aimed at increasing the number of filmmakers in the borough. The organization hosts social mixers, low-cost public screenings and workshops, as well as its annual flagship Bronx 48-Hour Film Challenge, as previously reported.
“There’s really a lot of great places to be creative in The Bronx and, if we all start linking together, we can really produce a sense of film community and creativity in our borough,” said actress, Brittany Mirabilé, of the initiative.
Now entering its fourth year, Bronx Film 48 seeks to create a space for aspiring filmmakers of color to meet, network, and ultimately create. Their inaugural event of 2022 is geared towards facilitating those crucial initial meetings. “Many talented Bronx creatives may not even be aware of one another, but BXF48 hopes to change that through this event,” Perez said.
Taking place on Saturday, April 16, at 6.30 p.m. at 1017 Home St., Bronx, NY 10459, located south of the Charlotte Gardens neighborhood, attendees can expect a full schedule, including a panel of industry experts and veteran filmmakers, a Q&A, complimentary food and drink, and a first look at Bronx Film 48’s plans for 2022 and beyond.
This event is made possible thanks to DreamYard Project, a fellow organization also supporting the arts in The Bronx, and which has provided Bronx Film 48 with their BX Start community space, located on the building’s ground floor.
RSVPs for the event are now open via Eventbrite RSVP, but organizers say space is limited. This networking event is open to creatives of all ages and experience levels, and proof of vaccination against COVID-19 will also be required for entry.
