Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced on Thursday, July 21, that a Bronx teacher has been sentenced to three years in prison and 10 years post release supervision for raping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl who was one of his students.
In the context of the announcement, Clark said, “The defendant used his position of power to engage in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. His assaults on the victim led to life- altering trauma.”
According to the NYPD investigation and the case put forward by the prosecution, between Dec. 1, 2018 to April 18, 2019, the defendant, Jonathan Pol, 31, of Wingdale in Dutchess County, NY, who was an English teacher at Mott Hall Community School in the Throggs Neck section of The Bronx, engaged in a sexual relationship with the victim. He also engaged in inappropriate text messages with her.
Clark said Pol was sentenced on Thursday by Bronx Criminal Court Judge Laurence Busching to three years in prison and ten years post release supervision, and must register as a sex offender. He pleaded guilty on May 17, to second-degree rape.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Baer, supervisor of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau under the supervision of Mimi Mairs, chief of the child abuse/sex crimes bureau, and Johanna Hernandez, under the overall supervision of Adrienne Giunta, deputy chief of special victims division and Joseph Muroff, chief of special victims division.
Clark thanked BXDA Senior Detective Investigator Nicholas Cavalcanti for his assistance in the case.
She also thanked NYPD Bronx Special Victims Squad Detective Lawrice Crawford and NYPD Crime Scene Unit Detectives Omar Hernandez and Jaysen Basnight for their work in the investigation.
