A 30-year-old woman has died following a motor vehicle collision on the Bronx River Parkway, police said.
Police said that on Friday, April 19, at around 3.18 a.m., officers from the 49th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision on the Bronx River Parkway approaching the Boston Road exit, west of the Pelham Parkway neighborhood.
They said further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad (CIS) determined that a 30-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Jeep Commander, traveling northbound on Bronx River Parkway, when she allegedly lost control of the jeep and struck a guard rail.
“After striking the guard rail, the Jeep overturned several times, ejecting the 30-year-old female operator from the vehicle onto the grass shoulder,” police said.
They said the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. “The 34-year-old male passenger sustained internal and external injuries and was removed from the vehicle by FDNY and transported by EMS to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in critical but stable condition,” police said. “There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.”
They said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification.
With CIS investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
As reported, two people died, three people were hospitalized, and one person was charged following a two-car collision in Fordham Manor on April 13. As also reported, a 34-year-old male motorbike driver has died following a three-vehicle collision in Allerton.
