On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., Montefiore Medical Center will host a breastfeeding expo to honor annual International World Breastfeeding Week, an event started by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) in 1992 and currently recognized in 120 countries worldwide.

Dr. Steven Safyer, Montefiore president and CEO, will join the hospital’s pediatricians, Ob/gyns, and breastfeeding mothers to answer questions and educate visitors about the benefits of breastfeeding. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, breastfeeding increases immunization for infants and lowers the risk for mothers to develop postpartum hemorrhage, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and anemia.
