Bronx Notes: Local Halloween Holiday Happenings

A few local Halloween-related happenings here in the Bronx.

The Bronx Library Center, at 310 E. Kingsbridge Rd., presents BOO!, A Halloween Birthday Bash, a play for the entire family, Oct. 27 at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call (718) 579-424/46/57 or visit www.nypl.org.

The public is invited to celebrate Halloween with their dog at Howl-O-Ween, Oct. 28 from noon to 2 p.m. at Van Cortlandt Park’s Canine Court Dog Run & Playground (enter park at Broadway and 252nd Street). Bring your pet pooch and yourself, both in costume and join the contest for the most original, scariest, pet/owner lookalike. First prize winners receive $25 gift certificates from Fieldston Pets. NYC Haunt Holdings presents Bronx Haunted Warehouse, 1157 Commerce Ave., through Oct. 31, which features rooms with scares and zombies chasing you from every angle, promising visitors plenty of screams. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
