Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you. Thank you for the information. I am 71 Years old and my total income is 1, 200.00 per month from Social Security. When I retired in 2008 I realized that I would need to find another source of income to help me make ends meet. Well I got lucky and I found a part time job as a substance abuse counselor with Alianza Dominicana in Manhattan. But that’s not my main problem. As I said I’m 71 but I have Atrial Fribulation which can cause congestive heart failure or a stroke which is even worse. I live in a fourth floor walk up with no elevator and I have been searching for an apartment preferably in a senior citizen housing building or in a senior citizen housing complex. There are not many senior housing buildings in the Bronx and the existing ones have thousands of people on the waiting list. I recently applied at a new complex in the Bronx located on 198 Street between the Grand Concourse and Webster Ave. I applied almost as soon as the notice was posted. But lucky me NY City Housing gives out apartments through a lottery and I got passed by. I think I am about one thousand something on the list. I need a first floor apartment or a building with an elevator. I am a long time Bronx resident and I definitely qualify. I need to know where I can obtain information about new senior citizen housing sites because the existing ones the waiting list is so long that an older person will probably die before getting one.
    My name is;

    William Lema
    1512 Townsend Avenue, Apt. 4Q
    Bronx, NY 10452

    Again I just need the information because I can do the foot walk. Thanking you for your help I remain….

    Sincerely,
    William Lema,
    A grateful citizen
