Bronx Notes: BX International Film Festival Submission Deadline Extended

The “10-for-10” submission deadline for the Bronx International Film Festival — $10 to get your film into the festival’s 10th anniversary event — has been extended to August 24. It’s just $10 to submit any short or feature film postmarked or submitted online by next Friday. After this deadline, the prices increase to $25 for short and $30 for feature submissions by August 31, then $30 for short and $40 for feature submissions by September 7 and finally $45 for short and $55 for feature submissions by September 14th. The festival will take place Nov. 8-10 at Lehman Stages on the Lehman College campus. Narrative, documentary, animation and experimental films are accepted, preferably but not necessarily, with an urban theme or setting. There is a $1,000 cash prize for the top film and top documentary. Submission guidelines and forms can be found at bronxstage.com and submissions can be made through withoutabox.com.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
