This Friday, Oct. 12, the Bronx Museum is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the public is invited to celebrate with them. The event will feature a screening of video art provided by Manuel de Santaren’s collection. Other activities will include a silent art auction and film screenings, including the documentary “From Mambo to Hip Hop.“
The celebration does not end there; there will be music performances as well. Some of the performances include Artyro O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Bobby Sanabria and Quarteto Aché, The Valerie Capers Quartet, the Latin Sax Quartet, Charansalsa, Rokafella FC, Francis Akrofys and The Ghanaian Rhythmic Drummers, global grooves courtesy of DJ Lightbolt and more.
The goal of the event is to highlight the museum’s three new initiatives: free admission, get schools and youth more involved and enhancing its permanent collection.
The celebration starts at 7:30 p.m and ends at midnight. The museum is located at 1400 Grand Concourse, at 165th Street. If you care to join in the festivities, you must RSVP first at 40Anniversary@BronxMuseum.org.
