On Sunday in Concourse Village, a fire fueled in part by a gas tank left over from Hurricane Sandy took the life of 7-year-old Hazel Martinez, DNAinfo reports. Meanwhile, Hazel’s half-sister Hailey suffered serious injuries from smoke inhalation. The fire reportedly sparked at a pinched gas line to a newly installed stove and then accelerated when it reached the portable gas tank.
