–According to the Daily News, the Department of Health has reported that the 10457 zip code in the Bronx (which includes Tremont, parts of Crotona, Belmont, and Claremont) has the highest rate of dual STD sufferers in the city. These diseases include HIV, hepatitis B & C, gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, and tuberculosis.
-Dr. Spencer “Spike” Foreman, former President of Montefiore Medical Center, died on May 28 at the age of 77, the Bronx Times reports. He has been credited with making Montefiore one of the largest and most successful healthcare centers in the nation.
–According to a recent Mott Haven Herald article, Bronx Supreme Court Judge Justice Mary Brigantti-Hughes threw out a lawsuit filed by residents to stop the online grocer FreshDirect from relocating their headquarters to the Harlem River Rail Yards in Port Morris. South Bronx Unite, a grass roots organization consisting of Bronx residents and activists that filed the lawsuit, argued that the move would bring more cars and trucks into the area, worsening the area’s pollution.
–Bronx News 12 reports that the Tropical Storm Andrea is moving its way up the coast and residents in the Bronx should expect heavy rainfall through Friday night. The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flash flood warning, which will go into effect tonight at 11 p.m.
