This piece, “Dark Flower,” by Lauren Luloff, is one of several on display at the Poe Park Visitor’s Center (2640 Grand Concourse) as part of an exhibit called “Swamp,” which run through tomorrow, Jan. 18. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Welcome to Thursday’s edition of the Bronx News Roundup. These are the Bronx stories we’re following today.

Bob Kappstatter at the Bronx Times asks “Where’s Charlie Rangel?” As in Charlie Rangel, the Congressman whose district is now 26% Bronx and hasn’t opened a district office in the borough or hired a Bronx community rep. Rangel called Kappy and said he’s still putting together his Bronx outreach strategy, although he said he doesn’t plan on opening a district office here in the Boogie Down. I just spoke with some Rangel staffers who explained that the congressman’s budget has been slashed in recent years and, on top of that, the recent stalemate on budget talks in Washington has left congressional funding in limbo, making it difficult to commit to funding a new office or rep. However, they did say their office would be holding events in the Bronx and hoped to service constituents through those events. And, of course, folks can also make the trip down to their offices in Harlem, 163 W. 125th St.

More in the BX Times about a homeowner who is getting a neighbor that’s a little too close for comfort.

Bunch of cool events going in the Bronx this weekend, writes the NY Times.

A “shock artist” from the Bronx was sentenced to prison for distributing obscene material — like women having sex with him while eating feces, the Daily News reports.

And finally, check some family photos of Bronxite and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, courtesy of NPR.

That’s it for today. Send links, news tips and preferably not obscene photos to us at norwoodnews@norwoodnews.org.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
