Just a few quickies today:

A car thief swiped a Jeep on Kingsbridge Road that happened to contain a 7-month-old baby in the back seat. The baby was later found safe and sound in a parking garage and then taken to Montefiore Medical Center for evaluation. Police are now looking for the suspect who was caught on tape at the parking garage, CBS News reports.

A man was found shot to death earlier today in the stairwell of the Morrisania Air Rights Houses on Park Avenue in Concourse Village, the Daily News reports.

Thanks to a new initiative, the Bronx is starting to make progress in handling a huge backlog of criminal cases, the Daily News reports.

Parents of PS 51, The Bronx New School, are still waiting on a report detailing the effects of their children’s exposure to a cancer-causing chemical discovered in high concentrations at the school’s former building in Bedford Park, the Daily News reports. The chemicals were discovered two years ago, but parents weren’t notified until months later.

The Times reviews artist Joan Semmel’s new showcase at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
