The New York Times article on longtime Bronx environmental activist Majora Carter and her business relationship to FreshDirect’s move into the borough has received attention from the borough’s president, Ruben Diaz Jr. The Bronx president says “critics of Ms. Carter are misguided and misinformed,” and that the company’s move into the Bronx will only add to the borough’s success.  Read Diaz’s letter to the editor.

A Bronx VA exoskeletal-assisted walking study is helping paraplegic veterans stand, walk, and climb up stairs. The invention, called “ReWalk” is being studied at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx. The study is being led by Dr. Ann Spungen who will present her findings in Italy this week. The Daily News examines some of the lives that have been changed due to this high-tech study.

Brilla College Prep, the new south Bronx Charter School, selected 200 soon-to-be kindergarteners and first graders for its September school opening. Administration entered the names of more than 500 applicants in an electronic lottery system that was used for the selection process. News 12 Bronx reports that the 10 members of the Van Cortlandt Runners Club made it back safe from yesterday’s Boston marathon bombings. A total of 17 runners from the Bronx participated in the marathon, but no reports of injuries have been received.

A Bronx graffiti artist has partnered with Calvin Klein to create a street inspired cosmetics line that will include products that resemble colors found in her own artwork. The line will be called Street Edition, News 12 Bronx reports (subscription needed).
