On June 25, the Norwood News sent reporters to chronicle the graduation ceremonies of three Bronx high schools, including the High School of Computers & Technology on the Evander Childs Campus.
The graduation ceremony for the High School of Computers & Technology’s class of 2013 included moon-walking, rapping, and lots of cheers. Held at the Lehman College Center for the Performing Arts, the spacious auditorium housed an enthusiastic crowd and plenty of giant “You Did It!” balloons.
The ceremony included musical numbers from students and advisors as well as a slideshow presentation of the soon-to-be graduates. All of the students, who were clad in royal blue caps and gowns, were extremely appreciative of their teachers.
One student urged his peers to “Make some noise for the teachers. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be here right now!” during his rap performance. As the diplomas were presented, every student seemed eager to give their teachers big hugs as they walked onstage.
During the event, more than 100 students were presented with awards in addition to their diplomas.
Salutatorian Joshua Tagle started his speech by taking a “selfie” photo with his phone, much to the crowd’s amusement. He later thanked Principal Bruce Abramowitz for making their senior year so memorable. Nailene Cruz, the class valedictorian, spoke about the countless memories that had been made in the past year and thanked her teachers for helping every student who was graduating that day.
After the diplomas were handed out and the final pledge was spoken, the students finally graduated and threw their caps into the air against the deafening sounds of cheers, whistles and screams.
