Meanwhile, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson issued the following statement on March 30 to coincide with the opening of baseball season, “Today is Opening Day and we proudly welcome back the New York Yankees to the Bronx!” she said. “Each Spring brings excitement for the new baseball season and the tremendous impact it will have on our small businesses and local merchants. Can Aaron Judge break his own home run record and win back-to-back MVPs? Will we see Anthony Volpe blossom into the next great shortstop? The Yankees are back and ready to go for their 28th championship ring! Let’s play ball!”
