Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson announced on Wednesday, Jan. 12, that, in partnership with Congress Member Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), who represents parts of the Bronx and Northern Manhattan, Bronx Council Member Pierina Sanchez (C.D. 14), Bronx State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (S.D. 33), Bronx Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81) and Bronx Assembly Member Yudelka Tapia (A.D. 86), she will be hosting a COVID-19 home testing kit distribution event in the Kingsbridge neighborhood of The Bronx, on Wednesday.
The event is part of a series of upcoming distribution events that take place this week organized by The Office of The Bronx Borough President.
Throughout the week, Gibson will be joined by elected officials and community partners in distributing over 4,000 testing kits to different locations all across the borough.
The home testing kits will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis in an area with one of the highest COVID-19 positivity rates in The Bronx. The testing kits were supplied by New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m. at the corner of Kingsbridge Road and University Avenue Bronx, NY.
Norwood News previously reported on the situation with regard to testing amid the rise in COVID-19 cases in the last month due to the highly transmissible omicron variant, with many people finding it difficult to get tested in the lead up to the holidays, as well as the measures taken measures taken by the federal, State, and City governments to address the shortage in testing centers.
We also reported on how some testing centers were reportedly engaging in price gouging, due to the high demand for tests, along with the steps that residents can take to report such instances.

Home testing is also one way of avoiding having potentially sick people with COVID-19 standing in line for a test and potentially infecting others. Mayor Eric Adams recently demonstrated how to use the home test kits. For more tips on how to administer a test at home, click here.
Testing is a critical weapon in fighting back #COVID19, and at-home rapid tests are available at testing sites across the five boroughs.
