With all the hoopla surrounding incumbent Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera and well-heeled challenger Mark Gjonaj in the Bronx’s 80th Assembly District primary race, it’s been difficult for underdog Adam Bermudez, a former reporter with the Bronx Times, to get noticed. Like other attention-seekers, Bermudez has turned to youtube with a video parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s super hit, “Call Me Maybe.” Above, you’ll find Bermudez’s version, “Vote for Me Maybe,” which shows the 29-year-old walking around Morris Park and other parts of the district with a guitar and talking/singing to voters and asking for donations.
More on Bermudez and other local candidates in the upcoming print edition of the Norwood News, which hits streets tomorrow. Below, we’ve included Jepsen’s version. Vote for which version you like better in the comments section or on our Facebook page.
Vote for Me, Maybe?
Threw my hat in the race
needed a way to assert my place
I wanted to shape my world,
And now I have a way
I found my neighbor’s craving change
sick of fingers pointing blame,
someone just needs to get int the game
and now I have a way.
A way to end corruption
fix schools without destruction
use my knowledge and my gumption,
LET HAVE AN ELECTION BABY!
Hey, I just met you, And this is crazy, But here’s my platform, Vote for me, maybe?
Promise I’ll work so hard, write bills and not be lazy, here’s my pamphlet, Vote for me maybe?
Hey, I just met you, And this song is crazy, But here’s my “palmcard”, Vote for me, maybe?

But still, I need your vote.
I beg, and hope and pray,

hails storms don’t come our way.
CuzI just need some votes.
Train stations at dawns’, Hands shaked, signs on lawns and
Hot days,apathy’s gone,
we got grassroots democracy, baby!

I’m voting for Adam Bermudez. I discovered him because I was sick of the anonymous mudslinging done by Rivera & Gjonaji.
Bermudez is not wasting trees by sending out cards that slam the other candidate. He’s singing music on the campaign trail and has modest goals to improve education and help us create jobs.
Don’t know if he’ll do great in office, but his idealistic goals are similar to mine. The more idealistic people we put in office, the better our chances of turning the people’s agenda into reality.
