Bronx 100 Scavenger Hunt Slated For July 12

By the Norwood News

So how knowledgeable are you about the Bronx?

You can put that knowledge along with your hunting skills to the test with the Bronx 100 Scavenger Hunt, a promotional event by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the Bronx Tourism Council.

On July 12, a total of 40 teams will be vying for first place as they scour the Bronx to identify key landmarks of the borough through a series of clues revealed that day. The event serves a two-fold purpose–allowing residents to understand the Bronx more while advancing the Borough Office’s Bronx Centennial celebration.

“Throughout our centennial celebrations we have been focused on highlighting the ‘New Bronx,’” said Diaz. “This contest will give teams from all over a chance to learn about our borough, see firsthand the progress we have made, and maybe even win a prize.”

Teams of four will begin in the morning, taking photos of various Bronx landmarks and destinations to serve as proof they’ve answered the question. The team with the most points wins $2,500.

Entries can be purchased for $40 per team at ilovethebronx.com.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
