Police say they have identified a “person of interest” connected to the murder of a 64-year-old woman on Perry Avenue in Norwood.
At around 10:20 p.m. yesterday evening, officers from the 52nd precinct responded to a 911 call from a concerned citizen requesting that 64-year old widow Magda D’agostino, who lived on the second floor of 3525 Perry Ave., receive a wellness check after no one had heard from her for at least a couple of days.
According to a recent police report, issued earlier this morning, D’agostino was found “unconscious and unresponsive” on the floor of her apartment with trauma “about her body” and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Inspector Joseph Dowling, the commander of the 52nd Precinct, confirmed that D’agostino’s death was being investigated as a homicide and that detectives had identified a “person of interest” connected to the murder. He declined to go into further detail, saying the investigation was ongoing and developing quickly.
Andres Perez, a longtime resident on the first floor of the building, said he was informed by the first detective on the scene that a hammer was found near the body.
“She was a lovely, lovely woman,” said one elderly second floor resident who had known D’agostino since the early 1970s. “I am shocked. I thought she she was in Puerto Rico because her curtains had been closed for the past couple of days,” she said.
“I did not see or hear any suspicious activity,” Perez said.
The Medical Examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. The body was only recently removed from the scene early this afternoon.
