On Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. attended the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Enid A. Haupt Conservatory palm dome which was recently completed.
The iconic venue reopened in accordance with “New York Forward” safety guidelines, with very limited capacity. The magnificent glasshouse, which includes galleries, features aquatic plants and vines, lush tropical rain forests, cactus-filled deserts, and its palm dome, an architectural gem, newly replanted with majestic soaring species from around the world.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. also helped the NYBG kick off their annual “Fiesta de Flores” event.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fiesta de Flores event was re-imagined with exciting digital programs that can be enjoyed at home in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Throughout the month the NYBG will feature the vibrant cultural traditions and fascinating botanical heritage of the plants and people of Latin America and the Caribbean region, with musical performances, scientist stories, and flowers.
“I am so excited that the New York Botanical Garden has invited me to kick off their Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta de Flores annual event” said Diaz Jr. “Due to the pandemic, we cannot come together and celebrate together and in person. But the New York Botanical Garden has figured out a great way to celebrate everything wonderful about our culture.”
