Bronx Community Board 7 will be hosting a meeting with the Department of Transportation to discuss proposed pedestrian safety improvements along Reservoir Oval/Williamsbridge Oval Park. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the meeting on Wednesday, April 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mosholu Montefiore Medical Community Center, 3450 DeKalb Avenue at East Gun Hill Road.
Safety in and around the Oval has been a major issue for some time, and a “community workshop” was held in January to discuss such matters. Local residents turned out to voice concerns, ask questions, and provide insights into the ongoing safety problems at the park. Insufficient or obstructed signage has been cited as the largest public concern, as it often results in confusion and danger for drivers and pedestrians alike.
Some, namely those involved with the community advocacy group Friends of the Oval, have called the practices of the DOT into question and deemed their lack of aid in the issue as unprofessional. Plans to convert the area into an official Slow Zone are underway, but no action has been taken yet.
The community board, as well as the DOT, is eager to receive community feedback in order to better remedy the situation.
