Two 11-year-old girls are recovering from their injuries at Jacobi hospital following a hit & run incident in the Belmont section of The Bronx, police said.
A police spokesperson said that on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at around 5.40 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving two pedestrians who had been struck in the vicinity of Arthur Avenue and East 180th Street, located in the 48th Precinct.
“Upon arrival, officers observed two 11-year-old, female pedestrians with minor injuries,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the victims to Jacobi Hospital, where they are both listed in stable condition.”
Police are searching for the driver of a black SUV which had been travelling westbound on Arthur Avenue and which struck the two girls as they were attempting to cross East 180th Street in a southbound direction at Arthur Avenue. “The vehicle did not remain at the scene,” police said. “The investigation remains ongoing.”
EMS also later confirmed the department was alerted to the incident at 5.40 p.m. with reports of multiple pedestrians struck at the location. The department also confirmed that two people were transferred to Jacobi Hospital.
