A 69-year-old man has died following a road accident in Belmont, city officials said.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on East Fordham Road in the vicinity of Southern Boulevard on Monday afternoon, Aug. 7, at around 1.18 p.m.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 69-year-old male pedestrian lying on the roadway with severe body trauma,” police said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.”

Police said that further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2016 Peterbilt truck, driven by a 38-year-old male, had been traveling westbound in the right travel lane of the East Fordham Road exit ramp, approaching Southern Boulevard when the pedestrian attempted to cross in front of the vehicle from north to south, outside of any marked crosswalk.

Police said the truck struck the pedestrian with the left front corner of the vehicle, knocking him onto the roadway. They said the driver remained at the scene and was not injured and the investigation remains ongoing.

The deceased has been identified as Lawrence Carrara,, of Prospect Avenue in Belmont.
