UPDATE Belmont: Two Arrested after 56-Year-Old Man Dies in Fatal Shooting on E 187th Street

Police said two people have been arrested on various charges in relation to the killing of a 56-year-old man in Belmont. As reported, police launched a murder investigation after the victim died following a fatal shooting on Monday, Feb. 17, at around 6.21 p.m. Police said officers from the 48th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a male who had been shot in front of 717 East 187th Street.

 

“Upon arrival, a 56-year-old male was discovered unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the aided to St. Barnabas Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.”

Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Tony Harris, 62, of Belmont and Shantelle Degout, 35, undomiciled, were arrested and charged on Tuesday, Feb. 18, within the confines of the 48th Precinct.

 

Harris was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Degout was charged with first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.

 

The deceased has since been identified as Emilio Rosas, also of Belmont.

 

The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
