The NYPD has opened a homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man in Belmont.

Police said that on Sunday, Feb. 26, at approximately 1.24 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired at the intersection of Bathgate Avenue and East 183rd Street.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 25-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the head,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the aided male to St. Barnabas hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.”

The deceased has been identified as Achilles Baskin from the Claremont Village section of The Bronx.

Earlier this month, also in Belmont, as reported, two people were sought following a separate fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man from Fordham Heights on Feb. 13.
