The NYPD said on Wednesday, Oct. 18, that they made an arrest in the case of a non-fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old male youth that occurred in Belmont earlier this month.
Police had been asking for the public’s help locating the person seen in the attached photo who they said was wanted in connection with the assault. They said that on Friday, Oct. 6, at around 11.35 a.m., an unidentified person got into a physical altercation with a group of men in front of 406 East Fordham Road in Belmont.
“During the altercation, the unknown individual stabbed the victim, a 16-year-old male, in the stomach,” a police spokesperson said. “The individual was last seen fleeing westbound on East Fordham Road on foot. The victim was removed by EMS to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.”
Police said the assailant was described as male, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighed 170 pounds and had a light complexion and braided hair. They said he was last seen wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.
On Oct. 17, police said pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Ronaldo Martinez, 18, of Sedgwick Avenue in the University Heights section of The Bronx was arrested on Monday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. They said he was charged with assault.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
