Two people, a driver and a passenger, were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition after they were ejected from a moving vehicle following a multiple vehicle collision on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park on Sunday morning, emergency services said.
Emergency Management Services (EMS) / FDNY officials said they were advised at 7.40 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, that a person was trapped/”pinned” at 2985 Webster Avenue between Botanical Square South and East 201st Street in Bedford Park following the collision.
A photo taken by a resident at the scene and shared with Norwood News showed one person seemingly underneath one vehicle and lying on the roadway, while emergency services responded to the incident.
EMS officials said the incident was brought under control at 8 a.m.
Meanwhile, an NYPD spokesperson later told Norwood News, “Today, at approximately 7.40 hours, police responded to a 911 call for a vehicle collision on Webster Avenue near Bedford Park Boulevard, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct. A preliminary investigation determined that a 2015 BMW SUV was traveling northbound on Webster Avenue when it failed to properly navigate the roadway and struck multiple unoccupied parked vehicles.”
The spokesperson continued, “The vehicle then overturned causing the unidentified male operator [driver] and male passenger to be ejected from the vehicle to the pavement. The operator and passenger were both transported by EMS to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Highway Collision Investigation Squad (CIS).
For collision investigations, the NYPD look into any criminal aspects of the investigation while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) carries out a review of the street design at the location of such collisions.
We asked police if they could say how many vehicles were damaged in total as a result of the collision, and were informed that it was believed to be more than eight vehicles that were struck.
Video of the scene posted to the Citizens’ app showed at least two vehicles which looked to be completed destroyed with parts of debris strewn across Webster Avenue which had been cordoned off.

Motor vehicle fatalities in New York State rose 25.8% from 2019-2022, with fatalities at the highest level in a decade in 2022, even as the number of vehicle miles travelled, licensed drivers, and traffic accidents have declined, according to a report by State Comptroller DiNapoli.
“Traffic fatalities in New York have grown at an alarming rate since the pandemic,” DiNapoli said. “While there are fewer drivers on the road and vehicle safety features have greatly improved, more fatal crashes are occurring. As New Yorkers hit the road for the Fourth of July holiday and summer vacations, let’s drive cautiously and arrive safely.”
