Bedford Park: Smoke Seen on Sunny Mothers Day Close to Gas Station

Norwood News has received a report of a possible fire in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx where smoke but no fire was seen some time on Sunday afternoon before 1.47 p.m. The location is situated close to a gas station.

 

Fire trucks were seen in the vicinity of 2885 Jerome Avenue on Sunday afternoon. We’ve reached out to the FDNY for more information on the incident.

A lot of smoke was seen on a building housing Verizon, located at 2885 Jerome Avenue which is located just behind a gas station on Jerome Avenue opposite Minerva Place, according to local resident and Norwood News photographer, Miriam Quiñones, who added that she could smell the smoke from her nearby home.

Meanwhile, Quiñones said smoke was also seen blowing onto the subway tracks serving a B train, as seen in the attached photo taken from Bedford Park bridge. “I went around to the train tracks and I saw smoke also coming out from there, and I showed them [the firefighters] the pictures so they’re going to check that out too,” she said.

Referring to a parking lot located at 2801 Jerome Avenue, Quiñones later said, “Now, all the trucks are on Jerome Avenue. I think they’re trying to put out the fire through the top of the parking lot.”

Meanwhile, as reported, all hands responded to a 2-alarm fire at 4519 Seton Avenue, a private property in the Wakefield section of The Bronx, also on Sunday afternoon at around 1.50 p.m.  The fire was later upgraded to a 3-alarm fire, as reported and has since been extinguished.

 

Another fire was reported on Sunday at 3003 Olinville Avenue in the Olinville section of the borough, just north of Parkside Housing Project, and was brought under control at around 3.01 p.m., according to fire officials. We await further details from the FDNY on any injuries as well as the cause.

 

Despite following up both by phone and email a few times, we have not yet received any information from FDNY on the Bedford Park incident. Department officials said they are researching the incident.

 

When we followed up with the department, an FDNY official said, “Not finding anything for that.”
