Police have made a fresh appeal to the public for help identifying a suspect who is sought for questioning in relation to the fatal shooting of two men in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx in February 2022.
As previously reported, on Saturday, Feb. 12, at around 10.54 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been shot at East 198th Street and Webster Avenue in Bedford Park, located in the 52nd precinct. Upon arrival, police observed two aided men in front of 397 East 198th Street. One 24-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the torso and a 28-year-old man had been shot in the face.
EMS responded to the scene and transported both men to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where both were pronounced deceased. A 28-year-old man was later taken into custody with charges pending. A firearm was also recovered at the scene. The investigation continued.
Some time later on the same day, the NYPD confirmed that the deceased were identified as Arnold Oliver, 24, of Peekskill, NY and Jamal Smith, 28, of New Rochelle, NY.
Police also confirmed that Wayne Smith, 28, of New Rochelle NY was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
On Feb. 13, an additional suspect was identified in connection to the incident, and photos of him were released to the public. These photos are attached once again.
On Tuesday, March 29, police said that pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Nathaniel Sewell, 26, of Mount Vernon was also arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, gang assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
