FDNY units were called to respond to a fire that broke out in a residential building in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx on Saturday afternoon, June 15.
An FDNY spokesperson later said that the department received a call a 2.53 p.m. on Saturday for a report of a fire at 200 East 205th Street by Lisbon Place. The spokesperson said food had been left on the stove and the incident was closed at 3.25 p.m. with no reported injuries.
There was a smell of smoke in the lobby of the building when Norwood News arrived at the scene, at which point, the FDNY had already left and a side door on the ground floor leading to a trash area seemed to have been left open potentially to clear the smokey air.
As we spoke to one couple leaving the building who had been unaware there was a fire in their building, one elderly gentleman pulled up and exited a car. When we asked him if he lived in the building, he said he did and that he was returning because he had left a stove on. He appeared to be also unaware that there had been a fire in his absence and continued on his way inside the building.
As also reported, another fire broke out in Bedford Park on Friday evening, June 14, with no reported injuries.
