A 2-alarm fire in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx on Thursday resulted in no injuries, FDNY officials said.
The blaze broke out on the 1st floor of a residential building at 5 Minerva Place by Jerome Avenue and Creston Avenue, FDNY officials said, adding that they were alerted to the incident at 1.25 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.
An FDNY spokesperson said 25 units, comprising 106 firefighters responded to the scene at the 6-story building and the blaze was placed under control at 2.54 p.m.
The spokesperson added that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
One witness told Norwood News about seven fire trucks were seen in the area around nearby Jerome Avenue and Creston Ave by Minerva Place and that smoke could be smelled all the way to Kingsbridge Road.
“The building was not evacuated,” the witness told Norwood News. “You [could] see people looking out the window.” The witness added that there were some broken windows on the 6th floor.
We asked the FDNY to comment on the witness’s remarks on the fire. A spokesperson responded, saying, “I do not have information on the condition of the building before or after the fire. Check with Buildings’ department (DOB). I do not have information as to what extent the building was evacuated on the day of the fire. Red Cross may be able to help you.”
