Bedford Park: ATV Rider Sought for Assault on Female Police Officer

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the person seen in the attached photos and video who they said is sought in connection with an assault on a female police officer that occurred in Bedford Park.

 

Police said that on Thursday, Oct. 31, at around 6.10 p.m., a female police officer was conducting a lawful traffic stop in the vicinity of Risse Street and Jerome Avenue when an unidentified assailant came from behind and struck the police officer with a closed fist on the back of her head. They said the assailant then fled on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in an unknown direction to parts unknown and the police officer was treated on scene but was not taken to hospital.

 

On Election Day, Nov. 5, two police officers incurred non life-threatening injuries during an arrest of a man who walked into Kingsbridge Road subway station armed with a loaded machine gun.

In July 2022, a Kingsbridge Heights man was charged with the alleged murder of his wife who was an NYPD officer. In August 2022, one alleged gang member was arrested for an assault on a police officer in Unionport, amid a carjacking probe. The NYPD said that on Aug. 26, 2022, they arrested the person for the assault on the off-duty police officer that left him with a fractured skull and brain bleeding.

 

In September 2022, a female police officer was injured amid a shoot-out in University Heights. In October 2022, two police officers were injured in a road collision in Marble Hill amid a police pursuit. One person was later charged with robbery, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, two counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, petit larceny, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and disorderly conduct.

 

In January 2023, a police officer was assaulted by two people in University Heights. In April 2023, a female police officer was struck with a bottle in Kingsbridge. In June 2023, a 19-year-old youth was arrested and a second woman was sought following a car theft and crash into a police vehicle.

 

In November 2023, a police lieutenant was assaulted amid a subway dispute in Kingsbridge. The same month, a man was charged for a hammer attack on a woman in Van Cortlandt Village, during which two police officers were also injured amid a police pursuit. In June 2020, a police officer was also assaulted in Longwood.
