Building applications have been filed with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) for a new, 7-story residential building at 219 East 203rd Street in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx, as reported by YIMBY. Located between Valentine Avenue and Grand Concourse, the interior lot is close to the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station, serviced by the B and D trains.

Joel Friedman is listed as the owner behind the applications, according to YIMBY. The proposed 70-foot-tall development will yield 15,656 square feet designated for residential space, YIMBY reports, and will comprise 28 residential units, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 559 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar and a 30-foot-long rear yard, according to YIMBY.

Nikolai Katz Architect is listed as the architect of record, and demolition permits were filed in April 2022. An estimated completion date for the new building has not yet been announced.

Norwood News reported last year on two other housing developments managed by Brooklyn-based nonprofit, CAMBA Housing Ventures (CHV), in the general vicinity of the above referenced development on 219 East 203rd Street. One is on East 202nd Street and one on East 203rd, both between Briggs Avenue and Valentine Avenue.

Meanwhile, in February this year, we reported that a St. Valentine’s Day stabbing occurred [Feb. 14] coincidentally on Valentine Avenue and  East 203rd Street and resulted in two people being hospitalized.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts.
