Bainbridge Water Project Enters Second Phase

Travelers driving through the northern edge of Bainbridge Avenue finally can breathe: the massive construction project is no longer blocking drivers going northbound towards the Major Deegan Expressway.

But the project is not nearly over.

Construction crews for the massive water pipe replacement project have entered into the second phase of the project, with EIC Associates Inc. set to install a massive trunk main that won’t disrupt service, but will likely expand the search for parking.

Crews have knocked out street parking from beginning at the intersection of Jerome and Bainbridge avenues, and heading towards the Major Deegan Expressway, to make way for a 48-inch wide pipe that connects to a distribution system.

A spokesman for the city Department of Design & Construction (DDC), the agency overseeing the project, said no water service will be disrupted during the yearlong project.

A similar project is happening further south on Bainbridge Avenue near East 205th Street, which has been happening since the summer.

Editor’s Note:  The DDC has assigned Yoshabelle Desulme to be the community construction liaison to answer any questions or concerns. She can be reached at (718) 644-2065 or email at Bainbridgeprojectccl@gmail.com

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
