At Lead Up to BMCA Flea Market, Knickknacks Wanted

Flea Market (Picture 1)

Here’s one idea for what you can do with that toaster or flower pot you no longer use– donate it to the Bedford Mosholu Community Association.

The Bedford Mosholu Community Association (BMCA) is hosting its annual flea market on March 5 at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church at 360 Bedford Park Blvd.

The group is collecting donations of any old or used items such as appliances, glassware, and toys, with the exception of clothes.

The flea market helps the BMCA, a group of volunteers committed to sustaining a quality standard of living for Bedford Park residents, cover the expenses that come with maintaining the neighborhood, such as the rent for the small studio where the association holds its monthly meetings.

Donations for the flea market will be accepted on Feb. 17, Feb. 24, and Feb. 27 at their office located at 400 E. Mosholu Parkway S. Their next meeting will be held March 2 at 8 p.m. where they will be accepting last minute donations.

The donations will moved to the church on March 3, with the help of a vehicle from Vanity Fair Bathmark located on Webster Avenue.

In another effort to raise funds, the BMCA is also selling five dollar raffle tickets for a chance to win a color TV, a basket of cheer, or $50 in cash.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
