Local Catholic school St. Ann’s, on Bainbridge Avenue and East Gun Hill Road, was burglarized last Friday or Saturday in the second robbery to take place there in the last two months.
In November, a thief broke into the parish building connected to the school and made off with cash, school officials said.
“The first time, they didn’t get into the school proper, but this time they did,” said principal Cecile Rodriguez, who said she was told by police not to publicly discuss details of the most recent robbery, as their investigation is ongoing.
NYPD spokeswoman Det. Gina Sarubbi said that police responded to reports of a break-in on Saturday, Jan. 8, around 9:30 a.m. The suspect entered the building through a rear window and made off with several electronics, she said. No arrested have been made.
Police say this most recent burglary is unrelated to the first, which happened amid a string of break-ins at several churches throughout the Bronx during November and December.
Nathaniel Linden, who news reports described as a crack addict, was arrested last month as the alleged suspect in those incidents and faces burglary charges for at least two of them.
“This break-in is not connected to the others,” Sarubbi said.
Rodriguez said school opened on time the Monday following the burglary. She declined to say what items were taken, but said the loss was “significant” and “expensive.” The New York Post reported that dozens of laptop computers and a flat-screen television were stolen.
“I’ve been here for a while, and we haven’t had anything like this happen before,” Rodriguez said. “I don’t know why we were targeted.”
