Police said a 31-year-old woman was arrested, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, following the death of a newborn child in a residential home in the Allerton section of the Bronx last September.
Police said that on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at around 6.59 a.m. officers from the 49th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding an aided person at a residential location in Bronx Park East.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a newborn child unconscious and unresponsive inside of the location,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the aided child to Montefiore Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.”
Police said at the time that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner would determine the cause of death. They added that an adult female on scene was removed by EMS to an area hospital for a medical evaluation and the investigation remained ongoing. The identification of the baby girl had been pending proper family notification.
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, police said Lasasha Gouldbourne, 31, of Bronx Park East was arrested the previous day, Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. They said she was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
