Located at 3162 Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood, Hakim & Co Multiservices offers the local community a variety of services, including home care, Green Card renewals, and tax preparation. Through Mosholu Preservation Corporation (MPC)’s Beyond Survival program, Hakim & Co. Multiservices’ awning was completely revamped.

MPC’s Beyond Survival program aims to not only help small businesses survive, but thrive. MPC provides support to small businesses like Hakim & Co Multiservices by connecting them with the proper resources to help their business grow. The business’s new awning is one way MPC helped to achieve that goal.

Hakim & Co Multiservices’ owner, Rukon Hakim, says the new awning generated a positive reception among clients, who immediately noticed the change. This visibility has not only attracted new clients but also reinforced Rukon’s commitment to serving the community. “I’m getting my brand advertised more and people are getting to know my brand now,” he said.

Hakim & Co Multiservices opened in 2017, and originally only provided home care services. Over time, Rukon saw the needs of the community were much greater and required the provision of more services, so he expanded the business to cater to those needs. “I am in the community for the community,” Rukon said. “As I got involved in the community, I saw the need for other items.”

Rukon said helping people is his favorite part of running the business and as the new awning helps drive more people to it, it allows him to help even more people. The awning symbolizes a renewed commitment to the community, reflecting Rukon’s belief that accessible, visible services can truly make a difference in people’s lives.

Hakim & Co Multiservices takes pride in supporting the community in various ways. They also assist customers with housing and SNAP applications, as well as international money transfers and immigration services, all at affordable prices. Additionally, they offer guidance on specialized tax issues, and help businesses obtain any necessary licenses.

“I love it; it’s a thing that I love and that I enjoy doing,” said Rukon. “It’s a great opportunity for people to come and know that there is help around the corner. As I provide, I know I will gain back.”

Rukon and his colleagues at Hakim & Co. Multiservices were front-line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the home care services the business provided and continues to provide. In addition, Rukon mentioned he also helped about 400 people during the pandemic with their applications for COVID-19 benefits, while they were unable to work. “We did whatever we could; video calls, Zoom meetings, anything to help those who needed it,” he said.
