H.I.M. Health Foods, located at 4374 White Plains Road in Wakefield, has been serving the community it’s health-related needs since 1997. The Jerome Gun Hill BID’s Beyond Survival program recently provided H.I.M. Health Foods with a newly updated awning.
“Everybody loves it!” said owner Kent Jarvis. “The BID did a beautiful job with it. Everybody is noticing it.” He added, ‘It stands out more than what I had before. It was a quick process and took about a week.”
The Jerome Gun Hill BID’s “Beyond Survival” program helps small businesses grow and succeed long-term. MPC plays a key role by connecting businesses like H.I.M. Health Foods to valuable resources that help foster their growth. H.I.M. Health Foods originally opened up because Kent wanted to help bring healthier options to the community.
“When we started we wanted to do a sort of empowerment movement for our people in our community,” said Kent. “So, we came together and we held a meeting with a bunch of our friends before it dwindled down to four of us and we got into business.” Kent added that he wants to inform people about how important their health is, along with giving them the resources to help improve it.
“The main thing I would like people to take away is that health is wealth,” he said. “I focus on helping people become more aware of their health. I let customers know they can heal themselves by eating right, and taking some of the herbs. I just want to give them awareness of their health.”
Kent says the most popular items he sells are herbs, but that customers love the store’s vegan food as well. “My favorite part of everything is helping people,” he said. ‘When people see the results, I like that. We are community-based. We are for the community and we engage in the community and we are here for the community.”
H.I.M. Health Foods is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. and is your source for vegan food in the local Wakefield community!
