PA Man Busted for Gun Possession in Norwood as SCOTUS Upholds ATF Ruling on Ghost Guns

THE 52ND PRECINCT, located on Webster Avenue in Norwood, is seen with the American flag at half mast on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in tribute to Officer Jonathan Diller (post-humously promoted to detective first grade) who died earlier that week during a traffic stop encounter in the Far Rockaways, and whose funeral took place that day.

A Pennsylvania man is facing illegal gun possession charges after he was apparently chased down by officers from the 52nd Precinct, then disarmed and apprehended.

An NYPD spokesperon confirmed that the incident unfolded in the area of East 211th Street and Perry Avenue in Norwood on Monday, March 17, at 9.50 p.m.

Providing few details about the incident, the spokesperson said, “Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the following individual was arrested and charged on March 17.” Police identified Unique Johnson, 19, of Stroudsburg, PA, who they said was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Breaking News Network (BNN), police had reportedly been in pursuit of two suspects, and alleged one suspect was subsequently removed to a local hospital by EMS. However, when Norwood News reached out to the FDNY, who oversees EMS calls, to ask for more information, they did not immediately respond to our request and therefore, we are unable to confirm if the removal to a hospital of one person took place or not. We are following up again with the FDNY and will share any updates we receive.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, March 26, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) upheld the U.S. Agency for Tobacco & Firearms (ATF)’s ghost gun rule, affirming that ghost gun kits are legally firearms, which means they must have serial numbers, and can only be sold by licensed sellers after a background check. As reported, ghost guns are firearms/weapons, the component parts of which can be purchased online and assembled at home without serial numbers.

Former Congresswoman Gabby Gifford, who is a gun violence victim, wrote on social media after the announcement, “This is a big win! For too long, the gun industry has used untraceable ghost guns to arm dangerous people who can’t pass a background check, fueling violent crime in our communities. I’m thrilled the Supreme Court has upheld ATF’s rule to treat ghost guns as the guns they are.”
