Located at 3860 White Plains Road in the Wakefield section of The Bronx, Synthetic Cleaners is owned by John Morales, and is the go-to spot for all your dry cleaning needs. The minority-owned business, which has been serving the local community for 12 years, recently received a brand new awning through the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District (BID)’s “Beyond Survival” program.

“It’s very nice; it’s great,” said John of the new awning. “People have noticed the new sign. They [The BID] were easy to work with and got the job done.” The Jerome Gun Hill BID’s “Beyond Survival” program is dedicated to empowering small businesses. By connecting small businesses like Synthetic Cleaners with essential resources, the BID supports their development. The addition of a new awning is one example of how the BID is making this happen.

“I want everyone to be happy when they come in here,” John continued. Synthetic Cleaners provides alterations, wedding gowns, restoration, and more. John takes pride in the reliability and quality provided at his business. Whether it’s a simple cleaning, or a more complex alteration, Synthetic Cleaners has built a reputation for exceeding its customers’ needs.

“Everything’s done here,” John said. “This is the plant; nothing goes out of my store. Whatever you need for dry cleaning we do it.” John has been in the business for over 50 years, after starting out as a sweeper in his family’s business.

John views both the staff and customers as a family and uses his business as a means to help serve the community. Synthetic Cleaners is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Come visit today for top-quality dry cleaning services.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
