The Best Buy store located on Fordham Plaza, at Fordham Road and Webster Avenue on the border of Fordham and Belmont, is set to close, according to representatives of the electronics chainstore.
A spokesperson told Norwood News on Feb. 25 it made the decision to discontinue its lease of its Fordham Road store, located at 402 Fordham Road and Webster Avenue, adjacent to Fordham Plaza, and said the day of business will be Saturday, March 1.
The spokesperson said that the decision to shutter was part of its regular and ongoing review process of its stores as leases come up for renewal. The spokesperson said Best Buy was doing everything it could to help all employees find positions at other nearby stores or within Best Buy group.
Best Buy officials said, customers, meanwhile, can continue to shop at the Bronx’s Kingsbridge Best Buy store, located at 171 West 230th Street, or at the Bronx Terminal, located at 610 Exterior Street, south of the Concourse section of The Bronx, on BestBuy.com, or via the Best Buy app.
According to Best Buy, the company is no longer taking a “one size fits all” approach for every customer or community, adding that many of their customers are at different points in their shopping journey, value different things when it comes to their tech needs, and shop across multiple Best Buy locations in their area.
They said many of their customers shop via their app or online, and that the company recently updated the app. They said these updates include a personalized home screen delivering a shopping experience based on personal preferences, a customizable navigation bar, a “discover” tab with a Shop with a videos experience, and live tracking capabilities.
Norwood News has reached out to Best Buy employees for comment and while some said they were unable to do so, we will share any further updates we receive.
With rumors of an additional possible closure of the neighboring Macys store, which is housed in the same Fordham Plaza building as Best Buy, Norwood News has reached out to Macys for comment, and will share any updates we receive.
We also reached out to the Fordham Road BID for comment on both stores and will share any feedback we receive.
In other Fordham Plaza news, as reported, NYC Department of Transportation is inviting proposals for new vendors to operate out of its building, with a deadline for receipt of applications of April 11.
