A car fire which broke out in a parking lot on Rochambeau Avenue in Norwood close to Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses campus on Thursday, Feb. 13, resulted in no injuries, FDNY officials said.
An FDNY spokesperson said the department received a call at 7.15 a.m. on Thursday morning for a report of a car fire in a parking lot at 120 East 210th Street between Steuben Avenue and Rochambeau Avenue.
The spokesperson said 12 units, comprising 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and the fire was brought under control at 8.02 a.m. with no reported injuries. FDNY fire marshals are investigating the cause.
When contacted, a Montefiore representative said hospital officials were aware of the fire and that it had been extinguished, confirmed that parking lot was owned by the hospital, but had no further comment on the incident.

A visit to the scene found that at least three additional vehicles were also damaged in the fire which took place on the fifth floor of the lot. According to workers at the garage, the driver whose car had caught fire had been looking for a parking space on the building’s fifth floor when the driver noticed smoke coming from inside the engine. The worker said the man said he immediately got out of the vehicle and sought help.
The worker said he and others attempted to contain the fire until firefighters arrived. He said the aggressive blaze destroyed the vehicle and damaged three others before it was contained.
Later that night, according to one social media post which included a video, firefighters were seen responding to another incident in which a car parked on a street became engulfed in flames at 8402 4th Avenue in Bayridge, Brooklyn.
Breaking News Network separately reported that a fire broke out in a 5-story garage on Wednesday night, Feb. 12, at 112-08 37th Avenue in Queens.
Back in The Bronx, as reported, a car with two male occupants exploded into flames on East 206th Street by Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood on Dec. 9, 2023, when, miraculously, nobody was hurt.

More recently, in December 2024, as reported, a minivan combusted on a Fordham Manor street, damaging two other parked vehicles.
Earlier this week, as reported, two people were killed in a Buddhist Temple fire on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Fordham Heights. FDNY officials said a parked vehicle blocked access to a fire hydrant, hindering their response.
Late last month, there were no injuries reported following a residential fire at 3065 Grand Concourse between East 203rd Street and East 204th Street in Bedford Park on Wednesday night, Jan. 29, and one pet was the only casualty following a separate residential fire at 2587 Bainbridge Avenue in Fordham Manor on Friday, Jan. 31.
There were also no reported injuries following a track fire at Woodlawn Subway Station on the Norwood/Woodlawn border on Jan. 29.
