The Bronx Council on the Arts and the Hutchinson Metro Center present two free lunchtime holiday concerts at the Hutch Metro Café, located at 1200 Waters Place (between Eastchester Road and Westchester Avenue), at 12:15 and 1:15 p.m. Dec. 9: Latin Jazz Traditional Holiday Celebration; and Dec. 16: Holiday Music, by students of the Celia Cruz High School of Music. The Church of the Holy Nativity, located at 3061 Bainbridge Ave. (at 204th Street), hosts a flea market, Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also, the church is seeking donated canned foods and non-perishables on Wednesdays from 3 to 9 p.m. and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for its ongoing food drive. The next Bronx Culture Trolley Saturdays is scheduled for Dec. 4, from noon to 5 p.m., starting from the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College, located at 450 Grand Concourse. This free event offers unique programming and runs during the daytime, complementing the long running evening First Wednesdays Bronx Culture Trolley. The Bronx River Art Center, temporarily located at 305 E. 140th St., #1A, presents Acting Out, a free group exhibition to further the discussion of feminist art, running through Jan. 8. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts.
