Job Fair Slated For July 10 At DeWitt Clinton HS

By the Norwood News

The unemployment rate still stands in the double-digits in the Bronx, earning the distinction as the most jobless or underemployed county in the state. Efforts have been made to curb the numbers, with job fairs happening throughout the borough.

The latest is set for tomorrow, Thursday, July 10, as Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj, representing the Bedford Park/Norwood communities, will host the 2nd annual Bronx Job Fair at DeWitt Clinton High School at 100 West Mosholu Parkway South.

The job fair will feature over four-dozen employers from the healthcare, retail, transportation and administrative sectors. Adding to the push to tackle the skyhigh unemployment rate is the arrival of Governor Cuomo’s Unemployment Strikeforce, a pilot program intended to connect the jobless to fields in the healthcare, information technology, administrative, transportation and warehousing, sales, and hospitality sectors.

Applicants are asked to look sharp, bring over 50 resumes and look the best.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts.
