13th Congressional District Debate: Monday, June 11

On Monday, June 11, two weeks before the June 26 Democratic primary for the 13th Congressional District, which now includes a significant portion of the northwest Bronx, the Norwood News and Riverdale Press will be bringing you answers straight from the candidates’ mouths during a debate held on Bronxnet at 9 p.m.

Candidates Adriano Espaillat, Joyce Johnson, Charles Rangel, Craig Schley and Clyde Williams have all been invited.

The broadcast at BronxNet studios, in Lehman College’s Carman Hall, is open to the public, but seating is limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Watch the debate live at 9 p.m. on BronxNet’s BronxTalk with Gary Axelbank on Cablevision Channel 67 or Fios Channel 33 or streamed on www.bronxnet.org. We’ll also be streaming it right here on norwoodnews.org.

We will be coming up with questions based on our own research and solicitations from you, our readers. Feel free to submit your questions in the comments section here, connecting through our Facebook page or sending them to norwoodnews@norwoodnews.org. We’ll do our best to get them answered.

If you live in any of the Bronx neighborhoods new to the district (the Bronx makes up 26% of the district) — Norwood, Bedford Park, Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, University Heights, Morris Heights — this is your opportunity to become a more informed voter. Tune in.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
