Welcome to the Norwood News, an award-winning, bi-weekly, nonprofit, community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Jerome Park, Kingsbridge Heights, Fordham, and University Heights. We mainly focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible.
Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly newspaper and grew to a bi-weekly paper in 1994. In September 2003, the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Bronx Community District 7.
Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. Also, don’t forget that you can ask for many types of information from local government under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), which became effective Jan. 1, 1978, and reaffirms your right to know how your government operates. It provides rights of access to records reflective of governmental decisions and policies that affect the lives of every New Yorker. The law preserves the Committee on Open Government, which was created by enactment of the original Freedom of Information Law in 1974.

About the Editor-in-Chief (she/her)
Síle (pronounced “Sheila”) Moloney was appointed editor-in-chief of Norwood News in March 2020 (yeah, then) having previously interned under former editor-in-chief, David Cruz, during the summer of 2019. Prior to that, among other roles, she worked as a weekend editor at digital news site RTL Today in Luxembourg, Europe, as a freelance reporter for digital news site The Luxembourg Chronicle in Luxembourg, Europe, and as an intern reporter at Nana FM radio station in Lomé, Togo, West Africa.
Since joining Norwood News, together with her colleagues, she won a New York Press Association (NYPA) award in 2019, and in 2020, together with BronxNet TV and WFUV New York radio station, the newspaper won a first-place, national award from the Public Media Journalists Association for its “Bronx Connections” collaboration. She also received an honorable mention from the NYPA the same year for a news story on sex trafficking in The Bronx.
Síle is originally from Ireland (the Republic, since people often ask. “We’re all buddies,” she adds.) Over the years, in addition to the United States and Ireland, she has lived and worked in France, Spain, the UK, Luxembourg, Togo, and has volunteered in Japan and Ecuador. She has also traveled to several other countries. Síle is a graduate of the Atlantic Technological University (formerly GMIT) Galway, Ireland; of University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland, of The London School of Journalism, London, UK, and she earned her masters in journalism at The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at The City University of New York (CUNY). Her favorite book is Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.
